Nursing Scholarship Program Patient Care Services

West Florida Hospital Human Resources Policy:  
 
“The Hospital provides money for tuition, books, laboratory  fees, school fees and supplies for clinical Rotations for the select course of study, for select students leading to a degree in a certain job classification.”   

“This financial assistance is offered in the form of a loan, which debt may be canceled on a pro rata  basis if the candidate works for the Hospital in a designated professional capacity.  The candidate is  expected to work full-time.”     

Application Process for Scholarship Program

(for student nurses in the Associate and/or Baccalaureate Nursing Program) 

For consideration in the RN Scholarship Program, please submit the following to the attention of Nina Clark in Patient Care Services at the address below:

1. Copy of Acceptance Letter from Nursing Program.  
2. Complete Hospital Application.  
3.  Two letters of character reference, one from a guidance counselor/teacher/supervisor/employer and the second from any other person who is not related.  Letters of reference are to be in a sealed envelope.
4. List of any community service activities or volunteer  activities, including description of activity and hours  involved.
5. Copy of most current school transcript with identified GPA.
6. Program cost provided from the Nursing Program.
7. List of scholarship monies applied for and/or received.  
8. A brief essay, which includes the expected date of nursing graduation, and answering the following: 
• Why have you chosen nursing as a profession?
• Describe a character-building experience you have had and how this experience has helped to develop your character.
• Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
9. Anticipated graduation date. 

Selection Process

Nursing Scholarship Packets will be received in the Patient Care Services office of West Florida Hospital bi-annually:  June 1st and December 1st. After receipt of the completed scholarship packet, a committee will review and interviews may be coordinated.
